India Book of Records appreciates Dr Gautam Ram Choudhary for rare surgery

Jodhpur: Dr Gautam Ram Choudhary of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, is appreciated for removing a huge renal cancer tumour from the kidney. He, and his team, removed this tumour from a 20 years old female patient surviving on a single kidney.

In the surgery, they removed the cancerous tumour and left the remaining normal kidney intact and healthy (partial nephrectomy). The tumour measured 18x15 cm in size, weighing 2.084 kg, as confirmed on December 21, 2020 by the IBR team.

Dr Choudhary said, “This young lady came to us with large Renal mass. It was a huge cancer tumour in a single functioning kidney, I had never encountered such large tumour in single kidney before this, hence I planned to remove the tumour and at the same time to protect the kidney. It was 4 hours long surgery.”

Removing such a large tumour to cure the cancer as well as to preserve the kidney, as the patient had only single kidney was a big challenge in front of us. “Also, often such surgeries we do by Laparoscopic or Robot assisted method, but in this particular case, since it was a large tumour so we needed to follow the open surgery method,” added Dr Choudhary.

The doctor emphasized that “Cancer of any stage has chances of cure. Any patient with such problem should meet the cancer specialist first”.
